Lender Spotlight with Erik Strand

Lender Spotlight with Erik Strand

Erik Strand has his eyes on the goal - in more ways than one.

As the head coach of UW-Eau Claire's Women's Hockey Team, Strand recently led his team to their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and was named the WIAC Coach of the Year for the third straight season. In his seven seasons leading the Blugolds, he has been recognized as WIAC Coach of the Year four times.

In addition to his hockey titles, he also holds the title of relationship manager, which was given after joining SFB's Commercial Lending Team last year.

"As much as I am passionate about hockey, I feel that same excitement when I am able to find financial solutions for businesses," Strand said.

There are similarities between Strand's two careers. As a coach, he leads his players in growing their hockey skills and as a commercial relationship manager, he provides owners resources to grow their businesses.  He enjoys being part of the process for businesses by providing the additional capital to help them grow.

"To see a business owner's sense of relief and excitement when the loan is approved is the best part of my day," Strand said. "I take pride in putting pen to paper to help move businesses forward and meet their goals."

Strand attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire studying Management and Information Systems while playing on the Blugold's Men's Hockey Team. Previously to leading the women's team in 2015, Strand served as the lead assistant coach for UW-Eau Claire's Men's Hockey program for eight seasons. In 2013, the team won a NCAA National Championship.

Living in Eau Claire since 2005, Erik Strand is happy to call the Chippewa Valley home.

"People genuinely care for each other here. It's not like this everywhere," he said. "I am fortunate to be able to raise my family here."

The future is bright for this Blugold alumnus, who strives to continue to grow and expand his network. Impacting businesses across Western Wisconsin is how Strand takes on his career with full strength.
