Watch Out for Phone Spoofing Attempts

Caller ID spoofing occurs when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to a caller ID display to disguise their identity. Scammers often use "neighbor spoofing", so it appears that an incoming call is coming from a local number or spoof a number from a company or a government agency that the victim probably knows and trusts. Then, they use scam scripts to try to steal money or valuable personal information that can be used in fraudulent activity.

If you receive a phone call that appears from a business you recognize, remain cautious.

  • Just because the caller ID says it's from Security Financial Bank, do not trust the caller immediately.
  • If you are feeling pressured to act, hang up and verify the request by calling SFB directly.

Scammers use pressure and urgency tactics to get you to act hastily and make rash decisions. Stay alert when you receive unexpected calls and authenticate the information before taking any action.
